We are headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA. We were organized in 1968 and commenced operations in 1970. During our 38 year history, the majority of our drilling units have operated outside of U.S. waters, and we have conducted drilling operations in most of the major offshore exploration areas of the world. Our current worldwide operations includes eight premium offshore mobile drilling units located in four regions of the world - offshore Southeast Asia, offshore Australia, the Mediterranean Sea and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

History and Development of the Company We were incorporated as Acer Display Technology, Inc., or Acer Display, under the laws of the ROC as a company limited by shares in 1996. The shares of Acer Display were listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on September 8, 2000. On September 1, 2001, we completed a merger with Unipac pursuant to a merger agreement dated April 9, 2001, as amended by a supplemental agreement dated May 15, 2001. We changed our name to AU Optronics Corp. on May 22, 2001. Prior to the merger, Acer Display was primarily involved in the design, development, production and marketing of large-size TFT-LCD panels and Unipac was primarily involved in the design, production and marketing of both small-size and large-size TFT-LCD panels.
