Commonwealth Bankshares Inc. is listed on NASDAQ (CWBS). The Company and the Bank. The sole business of Commonwealth Bankshares, Inc. (the Parent) is to serve as a holding company for Bank of the Commonwealth. The Company was incorporated as a Virginia Company on June 6, 1988, and on November 7, 1988 acquired the Bank. Bank of the Commonwealth was formed on August 28, 1970 under the laws of Virginia. Since the Bank opened for business on April 14, 1971, its main banking and administrative office has been located in Norfolk, Virginia. The Bank currently operates three branches in Norfolk, four branches in Virginia Beach, one branch in Chesapeake, and one branch in Portsmouth. The accompanying consolidated financial statements include the accounts of the Parent, the Bank and its subsidiaries, collectively referred to as the Company. Principal Market Area. The Bank concentrates its marketing efforts in the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Chesapeake, Virginia.
