Health Management Associates Inc. is listed on NYSE (HMA). Through our subsidiaries, we own and operate general acute care hospitals and psychiatric hospitals in non-urban communities. As of September 30, 2005, we operated 57 hospitals, consisting of 55 acute care hospitals with a total of 8,128 licensed beds and two psychiatric hospitals with a total of 182 licensed beds. Our fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th. During the year ended September 30, 2005, which we refer to as fiscal year 2005, we operated facilities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia. Our general acute care hospitals contributed substantially all of our consolidated net patient service revenue during fiscal year 2005.
